The Innovative Teaching Institute (ITI) is a non-profit organization owned by the Swedish International School operator NordicEd.

What we try to achieve is to bridge the gap between researchers and practitioners by making teachers capable of evaluating the impact of their teaching and conducting research in their own classrooms in order to improve student outcomes. We want to professionalize the profession and build capacity within the profession to learn and develop.

The Nordic Influence

Nordic International School is owned and operated by Swedish school developer and operator NordicEd, which operates 12 schools in Sweden. The Nordic countries are known to be amongst the best countries in the world in terms of education, entrepreneurship, economic competitiveness and quality of life. At Nordic International School in Lahore, we take advantage of our background and use effective teaching practices developed in the Nordic countries. Swedish teachers come to Lahore to train our teachers and we let our students collaborate and communicate with students from our Swedish sister schools.

Odd Eiken

Non-Exective Director / CEO of NordicEd

Mr Odd Eiken has a background of State Secretary of Education in the Swedish Government and has held several senior positions within the sector of international education including Advisor to Governments.

Anders Hultin

Non-Executive Director / Chairman of NordicEd

Mr Anders Hultin is an educational entrepreneur and has been the founder and CEO for several school operators in Europe.

Erik Axelsson

Academic Director

Mr Erik Axelsson holds a Master of Education from Uppsala University in Sweden. He has over 15 years of experience from working as a teacher in both Sweden and China. His passion is international exchange projects and as EU School Ambassador he has coordinated EU funded projects with schools from the Czech Republic, Italy, Poland, Slovakia, Spain, Turkey and the United States. In addition, he is an ICT specialist and he has organized workshops in both Sweden and Italy where he has demonstrated how digital tools can be used to facilitate learning.

Susie Recsei

Ex-Academic Director

Ms Susie Recsei’s career in education has been in Australia and the Middle East. In the Middle East her role within the Government Education System included developing curriculum and assessment frameworks, supporting materials and teacher professional development whilst partnering with other Government sectors.

Geoffrey Millar

Senior Advisor

Mr Geoffrey Millar has had a long and distinguished career in education in Australia, the Middle East and the UK. His work in schools includes school leadership and management, curriculum development and implementation, oversight and implementation of student pastoral care and other programs.

Kamil Majeed

Chief Operating Officer

Kamil is a Commonwealth Scholar with a Masters in Education and International Development from the prestigious UCL Institute of Education (IOE), London. He is one of the 50 Future Leaders from 11 countries who were selected for the British Council Future Leaders Connect Program, 2017. He has worked with the LUMS School of Education and the 100Hours Foundation in the US, which brings together a very large range of social and emotional learning interventions such as mindfulness, collaboration, ethics and empathy with a view to challenge injustices, break taboos and stereotypes as well as encourage dialogue and respect between communities. He is also a Board Member for WAFA (Water, Air, Food Awards) Youth which is an international platform that acknowledges and shares sustainable water, air, and food solutions worldwide.

After completing his Accounting and Finance degree from the Lahore University of Management Sciences (LUMS), Kamil completed his MBA from Sabanci University, Turkey. He was the Chief Operating Officer (COO) and Founder of Strategize, a management consultancy and corporate training firm. He has also served as the Official Coordinator of the United Nations Global Compact for the Lahore, Pakistan Network and helped in the localization of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDG’s) in Pakistan. Kamil strongly believes in the power of education to transform lives and societies. His vision for global change is contextualized education policies to empower the future generations and make the world a relatively better place.

Hassaan Mian

Head of Trainings & Partnerships

Hassaan graduated from LSE with a major in Marketing and a Minor in Media Studies. From his time spent in LSE, he had been involved with a diverse range of professional experiences related to sales and marketing. He later continued advancing his expertise and gained a sound and extensive experience of the corporate sector. He then received his MBA from LSE.

After his graduation in 2013, his sharp business acumen has led him to contribute significantly to several organizations such as IBEX Global, Digital Globe Services, Pak-Qatar Takaful,, and startups such as Digital Studios FZE and Adrotize. Here, he developed Business Analytical Report, handled HR Consultancy, and oversaw Project Management.

In the past 5 years, Hassaan has devoted attention towards amalgamating his expertise with his passion for teaching. Since then, he has been teaching as a visiting lecturer in renown institutions such as Beaconhouse, LGS, SICAS, and FAST National University. Through this powerful combination and his vision for a better education system, he now continues to inspire his students as well as teachers to empower them as ambassadors of change. At ITI, he strengthens his commitment towards revamped teaching strategies geared towards student learning.

Afnaan Qayyum

Program Associate

A gender enthusiast and a strong advocate of the social justice, Afnaan Qayyum is a recent graduate of the Lahore University of Management Science with a major in Politics and Economics. She has also studied Economics of Gender and Human Physiology at Brown University and Peking University. Believing in the power of communities to transform lives, Afnaan has led various community engagement projects during her tenure at LUMS co-founding Hum-Aahang, LUMS first student society that promotes religious tolerance and inter-faith harmony. She was also heading two Student Council committees as the Chairperson where she worked for various initiatives that supported student development and wellbeing.

With a strong interest in research, Afnaan has engaged with several research projects that required extensive on field research. She recently presented her paper at Sadia Waheed Gender Initiative’ Colloquium at LUMS delving deeply into legislative and cultural issues surrounding transgender activism and gender fluidity in Pakistan. She has worked in NEPRA, Privatization Commission, Gallup Pakistan and most recently at Kaarvan Crafts, an organization that works for rural women development, which further integrated her professional experience with causes she has devoted herself to. Her commitment to a society that builds its foundations on empathy, compassion, and equality, is what brings Afnaan here as ITI’s Program Associate.
